Aphmau Wiki:Policy

The Aphmau Wiki operates under the Policy, put in place to establish consistency across the community. This guide doesn't cover every extensive rule, but focuses on specific issues to be corrected on the Aphmau Wiki.

General

"I work for/formerly worked for CatFace/BluJay Studios and some information is wrong, or I would like to request information to be removed."
- Please make an account and contact Admin Higekiba. It's possible you may be asked to verify your identity. (The means may be as simple as requesting a DM on Twitter or other social media) This is only the case for significant information wherein trying to remove page content results in a rollback or undo from a mod. It is an entirely understandable request and we respect your privacy.
"I'm a former moderator/admin and my powers are gone!"
- That may have resulted in the adoption of this Wiki in October 2023. Contact Admin Higekiba for your powers back -- as long as you're interested in continuing contributions.
"Where's the Aphmau Community Discord?"
- The Aphmau Wiki and Aphmau Community Discord server no longer share active administrators, thus the Discord Server widget was removed from the Aphmau Wiki upon careful consideration after the 2023 adoption. The ACD still stands, it is just not associated with the Wiki anymore.

Language

Swearing is not allowed in any part of the Aphmau Wiki, even censored. Please resort to more appropriate language to get your point across.
- Swearing at or using hurtful language directed at another user is not allowed. Slurs or offensive humor will not be tolerated.
The Aphmau Wiki follows American-English spelling. (ex. Color instead of Colour)
You must be able to communicate in a reasonably legible way. Frequent single-word responses, typing in all-uppercase, obscene typing quirks, and incoherent grammar are unacceptable ways to interact in the community.

New Pages

Check out Special:WantedPages!
Creating multiple empty or semi-empty pages is unacceptable.
Assure the page you make contains the correct categories.

Generative AI Content Policy

Generative AI is disallowed on this wiki as it falls under plagiarism and provides densely low quality content. ChatGPT and other similar text-generating AI only regurgitates fed information, thus the results add absolutely nothing of value. This rule applies to both articles and discussions. Minor assistance in case of grammar correction and improving sentence quality is okay.

AI-generated/assisted images and text are strictly forbidden.
Violating these rules counts as a minor offense on discussions and you may be warned with a deletion of the offending post. However, it counts as a major offense on articles and may launch investigation on your previous edits and revoke your editing privileges.

Article Content

Had your edit removed and don't know why? Enter its Talk page, usually on the drop down menu next to the edit button, labeled Talk.
Joke pages are not allowed, however, old joke pages will remain for nostalgia and archival sake.
The creation of new ship pages is not allowed, they must remain on one page. Old pages will remain for nostalgia and archive's sake.
No OC's or fan content: They should remain in Discussions, Blog posts, and User pages.
Regarding sexualities/LGBTQ, avoid labeling a character if that character does not explicitly go by that label, only use language that suggests and describes their sexuality based off of canon context.
Headcanons by voice actors are not canon. If you want to include it as a trivia point, go ahead, but add a source and make it clear it is to be taken with a grain of salt.
Reference other pages to see if you're doing it right! Or ask the staff, or just allow them to help fix it after you. There are many unfinished and unpolished pages on the Aphmau Wiki that need your help!

Article writing standards

Articles have a particular way they should be written.

Use plain, cohesive language that is simple to understand and read.
Completely avoid using speculation, not without proper citations to support the claim. Theories are not allowed to be present on a page, maybe on the trivia, but not on the main sections of the articles. Forbidden examples: "It's possible that...", "She probably...". An exemption may be, "It's implied that...", given that it's followed up with a source.
Writing should be in third-person and the editor should never refer to themselves. Forbidden examples: "We are shown...", "We learn that...", "Fans think that...".
It should not be written like an essay. Forbidden examples: "In this season...", "This character..."

Article Layout

Articles are to follow a specific structure.

Templates

Arrange the {{Header}} or {{Header2}} after -- if applicable -- {{HeaderPrefix2}} or {{HeaderPrefix3}}. The color field should only be applied to the topmost header.

Main Quote

Quotes are optional. Use {{QuoteMain}} and match the color field to the color used in the header and character templates.

Characterbox

The Aphmau Wiki uses very customizable Characterbox templates, so maintaining a consistent look among the Wiki is important. There are two main Character templates to use, {{CharacterBox}} and {{CharacterBoxGradientBG}}. They are identical except the latter uses two RBGA value fields to create a background gradient.

The character should have a relevant and clear image depicting themself. The image should feature either their full body or upper-half.
To create a gallery, enter the "Switcher" field and input this line of code, then edit the contents,

You can add and adjust as needed. The 250px size tends to fit the best on most devices.

Names and Nicknames
Make sure to add the name field!
Do not add insults and petnames to the nickname field! Nicknames are reserved for actual nicknames, ones that might leave someone new a little confused or ones that help give more insight to their relationship with other characters. Zane's mother nicknames him Zu-zu, Gene's gang calls Aphmau "Kitty", and Kawaii~Chan has a plethora of Japanese honorifics for her friends while her friends just call her KC. An invalid nickname would be "Emo jerk-face".

Relationships, Friends, and Enemies The relationship fields are important to help guide the reader to explore more parts of the wiki and give important insight to a character. While it's good to know them all, listing every single friend can be overwhelming. Stick to just the most relevant characters.

Appearance

Get as detailed as you'd like, however be wary with language around a character's skin tone. Phrases such as "chocolate" are unacceptable language to describe someone, and sometimes it's difficult to accurately describe a character's skin tone as many people interpret "tan" differently. It's recommended to leave out the description of skin complexion unless it's particularly notable (such as Vincent's stark pale gray skin).
In a more detailed appearance segment, add just their core elements including any special forms they have, then in the next paragraph, add their apparel with citations of which episode they appeared in. If it gets too long, put it under a collapsible template. See Aphmau (Minecraft_Diaries)#Appearance for how it's supposed to be formatted.

- Biographies should never be episode summaries. They should focus on the character's significant plot relevance, relationships, and development.
- Biographies should be easy to digest and summarized. Avoid adding unnecessary commentary or details.

Early Life
Details of their early life should go here, include flashbacks and recollections. Citations are absolutely essential here.

Series
Their biography should be organized by series.

Citations and References

Citing sources is an absolutely crucial part of a wiki.

To maintain consistency, please reference other similar instances before contributing citations.
Citations should follow a uniform format, Series, S[eason]#Ep[isode]# "Episode Title"

Adding information to a page without citations is unacceptable and may lead to edit reversal.
Use the CitationNeeded template to mark information in need of citation.

Images and Videos

Images are very important to adding a visual flare to an article and provide more ways for the reader to explore the wiki. Files should be relevant to the article and be placed in an appealing way that suits well on all devices. Videos should almost always be placed on the bottom of a page.

Upload new videos and images at Special:NewFiles.
The file has a descriptive filename.

- A descriptive filename contains the characters featured, if applicable, series title, season and episode number, and episode title. This makes searching the file through the site much easier.
The file is in .png format.
No black bars or watermarks are visible, and the gradient on a paused YouTube video isn't visible.
The image is in the highest possible quality, typically 1080p.
- For YouTube thumbnails, use a thumbnail grabber. A decent one is boingboing.net.
The content of the image isn't already uploaded.

Community

Discrimination of any kind is not allowed. Deliberate targeted reporting of LGBT people or people of color is considered harassment and is against the rules. While religion is not an acceptable topic on the Aphmau Wiki, targeted reporting towards a religious individual is also considered harassment.
The topic of controversies regarding the series, staff, and companies must strictly contain credible sources following accusations, this may include testimonies from VA's and those directly involved in the company. Spreading rumors is not allowed and can be dangerous. These topics must be handled in a delicate and professional manner, hearsay is not allowed.
- The Aphmau Wiki is not an appropriate place to discuss controversies and drama.
Spamming article edits/redos and farming for achievement points on the leaderboard will result in a temporary revocation of the editing articles feature.

User pages

Do not edit another user's User page (unless requested or prompted by the main user).
Request an admin to lock your User page if you would like to prevent vandalism. We can only semi-lock a page to autoconfirmed users(has an account for 4+ days) or fully-lock a page to only administrators, which may bar you from editing your own page until you request an unlock.

Message Walls

Removing a Moderator's warning from your message wall will be considered refusing to heed the warning, resulting in a harsher punishment.
All community discussions rules apply to message walls. No sharing or asking for personal information, advertising, or harassment.

Accounts and Usernames

Sharing accounts is not allowed. "But my sister did it!" is an unacceptable excuse if any rules are broken.
Creating a new account in order to bypass a block will get your account and IP address blocked.
Usernames are not allowed to contain swears, slurs, or inappropriate content of any kind.

Discussions

Be appropriate. The Aphmau community has many young fans, so try to be a good role model. Discussing dark topics and controversies is not allowed, as many members of the community here are very young.
Harassment is not tolerated. This includes towards Wiki staff and Aphmau/Catface Studio members.
Ban evading will result in a permanent IP ban.
Internet safety: Classic internet safety rules. Sharing personal information is forbidden, for everyone's safety. (Before sharing something about yourself, think, "What if someone who wants to hurt or bully me got ahold of this information?") This includes your name, address, phone number, school name, emails, and identifying pictures/selfies.
Fanart should remain in the discussion pages. About sensitive content, some blood and violence is okay, as long as it's adjacent to something you would see in the series. Gore and nude content is obviously not allowed.
Discussion posts should be under the correct category.
Necroposting: Avoid replying to discussion posts where the last reply is over 1 month old. These posts will be locked.
Advertising discord servers or links outside of Fandom is not allowed. Works of fanfiction are okay.
No stealing art or reposting someone else's art without credit. Link to the artist's original page if you'd like to share fanart. AI-generated art is not allowed and will be deleted.
Some moderation requires taking situations case-by-case.

Comments and Blogs

You're encouraged to use blogs to create fan-pages for your Aphmau fan characters and fanmade-content!

Miscellaneous

Diaries Rebirth, while a remake of Minecraft Diaries, should only contain information and lore exclusive to Rebirth. Information such as Garroth being related to Vylad and Zane- while is common knowledge in the original series- was never reveled in Rebirth.
