"I'll Keep You Safe" is the 5th episode of Mermaid Tales. It premiered on July 25th, 2017.

"A mermaid on land...? What happens when a mermaid meets a human...?"
Summary[]
Katelyn and Teony prepare to breach the barrier. Katelyn breaks down under all the pressure she's been forced into lately, revealing to Teony that her father has been getting her potential suitors for when she becomes queen. She says she never told Teony or Aphmau because with them, she just wanted to have fun and forget about her responsibilities, and the dreaded day she would become queen. Using the king's sea crystal (and a bit of Katelyn's own magic,) they manage to pass the barrier, and swim off to find Aphmau.
Amber hesitantly questions Travis' choice to let Garroth find a bride for him, seeing as he's a pirate, and she's wary of the company he keeps. Travis tells her how he wants suitors of all backgrounds- and he wants both someone who loves him for him, and someone who cherishes the sea as he does. Kawaii~Chan rushes in to tell him that Captain Garroth has found a maiden he would like him to meet.
Aaron tries to find somewhere to bring Aphmau, but is caught in the rain. He finds a cave off the beach, and brings her inside.
On his ship, Garroth celebrates with his crew. When questioned about where he got the ale, he says he put it on Aaron's tab. After a few more questions he has the crew member thrown into a cell (again,) and he continues to celebrate. However, he realizes he shouldn't be celebrating a done deal if they haven't closed it yet. He decides they should talk to Michi more before the date to ensure success, and orders two members of his crew to go find Aaron.
Zane tells Tavari about Aphmau surviving the transformation, much to his shock. He can't help but laugh when he realizes that it means the exact opposite is possible, and that he can turn Lucinda into a mermaid successfully. He sends Zane back up to help her get human hair, since this is their only chance to get the ingredients- with a sealed spell to help. Tavari retreats to his secret chamber again, and promises a sleeping Lucinda that this time, he won't fail in turning her into a mermaid.
In the cave, Aaron makes a fire. Aphmau soon starts to wake, mumbling sweet nothings. Aaron becomes embarrassed, wondering what's wrong with her- and he starts to freak out when she comes close to him, saying she can't help but be attracted to him. ..Until, that is, she goes up to the fire instead, sticking a hand in and burning herself. He quickly stops her, looking at her hand and spotting one of her few remaining scales. He tries to pull it off, not sure of what it is, causing her to start yelling at him in merspeak. To him it sounds like nothing but gibberish, and draws his knife to try and drain the purple 'blister' on her arm. She takes it as a threat, not understanding him either, and tackles him, hitting him. He quickly becomes flustered again, and Zane watches them fight (or in his words, 'try to kill each other',) from a distance.
Aphmau notices that he's kept the flower crown she gave him and is distracted long enough for Aaron to shove her off of him. She apologizes, though he can't understand her at all. He leaves, telling her to stay, but of course she doesn't understand what he said. Zane comes in once he's gone, laughing at the two of them and giving Aphmau the potion Tavari sent him up with. She hesitates but drinks it, and just in time- Aaron comes back, so Zane hides in her hair to avoid getting kicked into the ocean again. This time when she speaks he can understand her and she can understand him. She accidentally implies she's not human, but catches herself. After a few more embarrassing questions, Aaron has enough and tells her to rest, not letting her get a word in. He falls asleep by the fire, leaving Aphmau awake on her own while the rain gets worse outside.
