"Merman?..." is the 3rd episode of Mermaid Tales. It premiered on July 15th, 2017.

Summary[]
Travis presses Garroth on where the crystal heart is. After discovering he doesn't have it, Travis orders Amber to seize Garroth's ship, which he protests instantly. Garroth offers another deal- and though Amber tries to interrupt, Travis decides to hear him out. He offers to find the Prince a maiden to marry, since his search is going badly- and after all, the heart was meant to be used to propose to her anyway.
At the barrier, Katelyn and Teony repeatedly try to break it- Teony with her spear, and Katelyn with any of the crystals she brought along. Neither is a success, and Teony suggests they give up as nothing has worked. Katelyn agrees, deciding that they'll just need to get a sea crystal.. and that they'll have to steal her father's. She tries to go on her own, but Teony won't let her, and they go back to enact Katelyn's plan.
Aphmau is tickled by sea buns, but it's interrupted by one in particular that starts to scold her for playing, and not knowing they were already at their destination. She's introduced to the Sea Bun King, who is shocked to see a mermaid. He correctly guesses that she's from Mariana, as she sounds too young to have been living outside the barrier all on her own. He suddenly tells her that there's no reason to go home, because they're all going to eat her- but in the end, the sea bunnies only lick and tickle her, and not much else. However, a mysterious merman comes to her aid, who also hasn't seen a mermaid in ages.. because he lives outside.
Aaron tries to get the purple scale he picked up appraised, but it's only deemed to be worth five copper. Garroth catches him on his way out, telling him he managed to get out unscathed by striking a new deal with the Prince.. One that requires him to find him a bride. Aaron starts to head off, but Garroth insists he stay and help- and he agrees, once he's offered ten thousand gold for it.
Back underwater, the Sea Bun King falls asleep- something that, according to the merman, happens easily. He introduces himself as Tavari, and offers to continue their talk back at his grotto. When they arrive, Tavari tells her that he already knows she went into the sky because of her ugly scales- and that if she goes back to Mariana looking like that, she'll be outcast. He offers to help her heal them- if she can get him the hair of a human. She laughs at him, still not believing humans to be real, until he explains that they look like them, but have two tails- and she remembers meeting Aaron. He gives her a sharp sea shell to do the deed with, warning her that if she sees or talks to a human, they'll gut her. She leaves to complete the task, excited to really see a human- the kind of adventure she left the barrier for.
Garroth and Aaron have little success with the women they 'interview', and Garroth only keeps complaining. Aaron excuses himself to clear his head, wandering out onto the docks. Aphmau spots a woman up on them, and pulls her under, trying to cut her hair- but Aaron comes to her rescue before she gets the chance. So Aph instead pulls Aaron into the water, recognizing him from before- just as he recognizes her. She cuts off a bit of his hair and releases him, but not before Aaron wonders whether she really is a mermaid, because he can't see her legs. Back on the docks, Garroth congratulates Aaron on saving the girl, and ropes her into their interviews by asking her if they can buy her a drink. Aaron finds a stray flower crown around his arm.
Tavari tells Aphmau she hasn't gathered enough human hair for both her needs and his, demanding she get more. She still naively refuses to believe Aaron is a human, and he gives up and allows her to rest. He recognizes she needs help, and calls for Zane- a small, black crab.
