"The Heart of The Sea" is the 1st episode of Mermaid Tales. It premiered on July 7th, 2017.

Summary[]
Teony oversees Aphmau attempting, again, to pass through the thousands-of-years-old barrier that surrounds the mermaid kingdom of Mariana. Despite her warnings, Aphmau insists on going through with it using a sea crystal Princess Katelyn "tossed away". Eventually Teony gives in and admits to wanting to see her succeed. She tries to pass using the sea crystal, only to be zapped and blown backwards. Princess Katelyn herself interjects, telling her that of course it didn't work, because the crystal wasn't charged!
Katelyn charges the crystal for her, under the condition that she doesn't leave her sight when she passes the barrier. Aphmau begrudgingly accepts just for the chance to go through. Everything goes smoothly once Aphmau goes outside the barrier, until Katelyn spots Titanus coming up behind her. She can't get back in on time, and starts to swim away with the shark trailing behind her. Katelyn and Teony try to get her attention and get her back inside the barrier, but end up having to go find the king for his help, instead- before it's too late.
Aph takes shelter in a cave, having dropped the crystal outside of it. She sees a large shadow pass overhead- unbeknownst to her, it's the hull of a ship captained by Garroth. He's acquired the Heart of the Sea, a rare diamond in the shape of a heart, for Prince Travis. Aaron, a pirate mercenary onboard, reveals to his crew that it's actually not worth anything, especially not the men they lost to get it- but Garroth sets his men straight and scolds Aaron for a moment before becoming friendly with him. He warns him that a current is coming up soon, and he'd better be careful not to fall off the ship. Underwater, Aphmau finds the current and tries to use it to lose Titanus, to no avail.
Mistaking the hull of the ship for a whale, Aphmau swims up to Garroth's ship and causes Titanus to crash into it multiple times. It eventually makes Garroth stumble and drop the diamond into the ocean, and he immediately dives in after it. Some of his crew members start to panic, but Aaron dives in after him. He finds Garroth and the diamond- but not before he spots a woman in the distance, which confuses him for a moment, and then he brings Garroth back to the surface. When his crew pulls him up, Aaron dives back under the water to save the girl he saw from drowning, too. He takes Aphmau's hand and starts to bring her to the "sky", but she pulls away and grabs the Heart of the Sea from the ocean floor to stab an oncoming Titanus. Aaron narrowly escapes, but without the girl, and is chastised by Garroth for putting himself at risk for 'a trick of the sea'.
Not knowing which way is home, Aphmau decides to follow the 'whale', and tails Garroth's ship back to shore.
