"What It Takes To Be A King" is the 4th episode of 'Diaries: Rise of Phoenix Drop'. It premiered on July 27th, 2019.

Summary[]
The episode begins with Gene in Zane's castle in O'Khasis, telling him of Lord Malik's fate. He then requests a spot in the Jury of Nine, but Zane declines, telling him that he's aware of Gene's partial failure. Because of it, Zane orders Lillian to cut off Gene's ear. After Gene leaves, Janus and Lillian question him on the power of Irene that he's seeking. Zane reveals that his hunt isn't to find his brother, but for Irene's lost power.
After Gene's meeting with Zane, he finds Sasha in a forest. Sasha is initially worried about Gene's ear, but he tells her that he's been worse. Gene tells Sasha that they're going to target Phoenix Drop and make the village suffer to get back at Vylad who ruined their plan by saving the lord's wife and child. Gene also expresses a want to find the same power Zane seeks to have something to hold above Zane.
Back in Phoenix Drop, Garroth asks Aphmau to heal the crops again, of which she's hesitant. When Zenix and Donna come by, Zenix is skeptical of her power, calling Garroth delusional. When he's distracted by Sean Connery, Aphmau uses her magic to heal the crops, a smaller potion of the field being healed compared to the previous time she did. Visher then appears, drapping Aphmau in a blanket to hide her power. He asks to meet in a private area to discuss Aphmau's power. Zenix comes back after the other's left, not having seen Aphmau use her power.
In Donna's house, Visher tells of danger coming to those in the world with power or magic. He asks Aphmau not to show or tell anyone else of her power or she might come into danger. He asks the same of Garroth, telling him to keep Aphmau's secret from even his most trusted guards. Garroth leaves the room to process everything and Donna and Visher try to reassure Aphmau. Donna then tells Visher of how Aphmau is now lord and the lie the village had caught themselves into.
Later, Aphmau goes to Emmalyn and after asking her why she reads books, Emmalyn starts to infodump about Lady Irene. When Aphmau tells that she doesn't know who Lady Irene is, Emmalyn starts to explain before getting interupted by Aphmau telling her that she's the lord. When Emmalyn tries to refute that, they go to Garroth who explains to her the village situation and how Aphmau is posing as lord. Emmalyn gets upset by this and walks off. Garroth finishes explaining to Aphmau who Lady Irene is, being a goddess of goodness and peace who left the world long ago. Garroth leaves for patrol, not before Garroth expresses his wishes to continue trying to heal the crops with Aphmau. Visher then shows up and proposes the idea of Aphmau building her own house within Phoenix Drop now that she's lord. He promises to help her along with Brendan and Dale who showed up.
